Dallas, TX asked in Traffic Tickets for Louisiana

Q: My daughter was issued a careless operation ticket on 11-15. Is it better to pay the ticket out of court or go to court?

She was topping a hill with cars stopped at the intersection of Hwy 3033 and Hwy 34 headed East back towards West Monroe. To avoid her rear ending the vehicle that was stopped she swerved to the right and the clipped the vehicle causing minor damages vehicle, and ended up totaling out my car. As if that wasn’t enough, it’s either go to court or see if she can’t get the ticket reduced. Hopefully the latter it’s her 1st offense. Please help me to understand what we need to do. Thank you in advance for your knowledge on our situation. Respectfully Dawn Holloway.

PS if I’m not mistaken, I believe there have been some lives lost at this intersection. It’s a very dangerous crossroads. I believe it would help if there was a traffic light put there with a WARNING flashing sign back West around the curve encouraging motorist to slow down as the light is about to change. I’m very thankful that she reacted the way she did, or I probably wouldn’t be having this conversation at the moment!

A: You should probably hire a traffic court attorney because this could affect her insurance for 5 years.
