Q: My court date for a suspended license is on December 14. 1500 fee. Do I have to pay this fee before December 14?

I was recently arrested for driving on a suspended license in Illinois. The fee is 1500. I must appear in court on December 14. Do I have to pay this fee before December 14 or will I have more time?

A: That isn’t the fee. It’s the bond amount if you don’t appear.

Fines are assessed by a judge who will give you time to pay if you need.

A: No. That is the bond amount you owe if you fail to show up to Court. You are facing at minimum a criminal Class A misdemeanor. Class A misdemeanors carry a maximum penalty of 364 days in the county jail and fines up to 2500. You will need an attorney.

Second, if you are not able to clear your license before the court date, you should hire an attorney right away to assist you with this matter.
