Chicago, IL asked in Civil Litigation, Landlord - Tenant and Small Claims for Missouri

Q: Is this legal???

My friend is in Jefferson county jail. After being arrested he made me power of attorney for the purpose of moving his belongings out of his mother's house because she stated she was gonna evict him. I've tried twice with law enforcement to get his belongings and both times she has denied me and police say it's a civil matter. Now she is seeing him for ac unlawful detainer. He was never given a written notice or eviction filed so how can she do this. Also she is selling his property I've caught her twice and once again police say it's a civil matter. What can we do to stop her .All I want is his belingingsand also since I'm power of attorney can I stand in for him at court

A: Only a Missouri licensed attorney may represent another party in court. If you file on his behalf you’d be committed a misdemeanor, the unauthorized practice of law. Time to hire an attorney.
