Saint Paul, MN asked in Traffic Tickets for Illinois

Q: I received a 3 tickets for speeding ( 15-20 over statutory limit ), operating uninsured motor vehicle , expired plates

Cop suggested to submit the required documents for the latter 2 tickets in the court to get my tickets suspended.My insurance is expired on the date i received my tickets.I renewed it on the next day which is active from that date.If submitted the insurance and renewed license plate documents in the court, will my 2 tickets get suspended ?

A: I think you are more likely to receive late compliance supervision on the no insurance ticket. That's better than a conviction which would result in a license suspension. However there will be a fine and a requirement to carry SR 22. See if you can get supervision on any tickets they won't drop but remember, you can only get supervision twice in a year. You have a fair number of moving parts. Might be worth paying a lawyer.

A: Your tickets will not be suspended. It is possible the expired registration will be dismissed but the other two tickets will be an issue. You have, what has already been mentioned, late compliance regarding the no insurance ticket, which is good but will not get the ticket dismissed. You must show up to court with that proof of insurance. As for the speeding ticket, depending on your driving history, you should be eligible for Court Supervision. You should seriously consider hiring an attorney to assist you with this matter.
