Cleveland, OH asked in Traffic Tickets for Tennessee

Q: Can you drop off students in a no-parking zone in a neighborhood beside a school?

I always drop my daughter off in the neighborhood next to her school in Shelby County, Tennessee so she can walk without having to go through traffic. However, this morning there was an officer outside who pulled me over and said that he would give me a ticket if I did it again. On the side of the road, there is a no parking sign. However, there is nothing about stopping or unloading passengers. Is it legal for them to give me a ticket if I only stop (i don’t even put my vehicle in park) for a few seconds?

A: It is not legal for you to park there, much less halt briefly, and let out or pick up a passenger. However a Parking Citation is rarely a Rule of the Road Violation, so it does not go on your Motor Vehicle Record for the last year. You do not acquire points against your Driving License.
