Cuttingsville, VT asked in Family Law and Domestic Violence for Georgia

Q: In Georgia, how do I respond to a request from my former husband to inspect my house? He has been violent in the past.

I have an order barring my former husband from coming onto my property because of his past violence and threats of further violence. Now he has petitioned the court to permit him to inspect the house to determine its value under O.C.G.A. §§ 9-11-34(a)(2). I do not object to having an appraiser come and photograph the house but I am afraid of my former husband. I can't afford a lawyer. To whom do I send the response? The Clerk of the Fulton County Superior Court Family Division where this petition was filed?

A: Any response must be e-filed with the clerk and sent to his attorney. Go to the family law division in Fulton County for assistance. He will be allowed to have an appraiser come to the house. Once the appointment is set, just have someone at the house with you for your security.
