Atlanta, GA asked in Criminal Law for Georgia

Q: What can I do if I haven't got a lawyer before my court date? I was going to use a public defender can't find him

My public defender will not contact me and has not tried to contact me at all. I really need a paid attorney but don't know if I have enough cash on hand can I continue the case or what?

A: First of all try calling and then emailing your attorney. The PD's office can be pretty busy so call the supervising attorney and they will be able to get you some help. In addition, I would suggest you email the attorney so that there is a record that you tried to reach out just in case you feel rushed into making a decision in your case. You can get the attorneys information on the GA bar website here

In addition, depending on the type of case, do not wait until last minute to get an attorney because the money you think your saving will be insignificant if you have to deal with heavy consequences from a criminal case. You must prioritize especially if your freedom is on the line.

I hope this helps.
