Asked in Landlord - Tenant for Virginia

Q: If we pay a prorated rent for moving in on the 19th of the month, why were we over charged the amount per the lease?

Our lease was changed 3 times moved to 3 different apartments only seen 1 & first one before move in. We recieved the correct lease on move in day 19th of April and first time seeing was then. We only been in the apartment for 20 days was charged per leasing office a little under first months rent of all fees paid which was about 820 and rent is 954. We already recieved a late notice on the door without being contacted on April 8th, and charged a late fee and renters. Even though we proved we had renters. We’be now paid all of what was we was accused of which totals to 1794. Went to pay first months rent on 13th of April, online but it didn’t state we were late but it was due 05/01/2019. We were told a number of things since our lease agent was switched after we did our application. Which was supposed to be waved since we are military, also we came in during a special where the security deposit was 99 but other agent charged us. Lease states rent is due the 19th of each month.

A: You should not be overcharged for the monthly rent. The story you indicated sounds very unusual.
