Glendale Heights, IL asked in Traffic Tickets for Illinois

Q: No fee on citation but court date for speeding in school zone, what to expect?

I got pulled over for going 44 in a school zone, before this I’ve only gotten pulled over with a warning for a broken tail light. I’m 18 by the way. The citation given has a court date on it but no fine. What should I expect on that date, as far as possible consequences. What are the typical fee amounts? Thanks.

A: You will pay money for fines and costs. This is not an automatic suspension item but you cannot receive supervision unless the stat would agree to amend the charge to simple speeding. If you are convicted the Sec of State will mail you are warning letter than you must go conviction free for the next two years in order to avoid a suspension.

A: You are not eligible for Court Supervision, which means, if the charges stays as is you will receive a conviction and a notice from the Secretary of State that if you get another conviction within the next 24 months your license will be suspended. You should really consider hiring an attorney to assist you with this matter. That attorney should be able to get the prosecutor to agree to amend to the ticket to allow you to get Court Supervision.

A: My colleagues are correct. You cannot receive court supervision, which means an automatic conviction unless the charge is amended. Two convictions within 24 months (under the age of 21) will cause a license suspension. Fines/court costs and traffic school are standard under these circumstances. An attorney can certainly help achieve the best possible outcome and keep this offense off of your public record.
