Asked in Consumer Law for New Mexico

Q: Possible consumer law issues

I purchased a car from a location with dealer tags and was promised the car was rebuilt and no engine light on but to also be able to be legally registered and emissioned. The day after I bought it the check engine light came on and it was for o2 sensors, causing me not to be able to to emissions the car without repairs. I took the car back and was told that instead it was a private sale and that they would buy it back for $1,800 which was $1,000 less than I bought it for. I spoke with a lawyer who said I should have 15 days or 500 miles (which I have not exceeded) to report the problem and request a full refund. What do I do?
