Q: I live in Tennessee my son is 17 is it legal for his attorney to speak to him without a parent present

He has some pretty serious criminal charges

A: Yes. In fact, the lawyer needs to meet with him without a parent present for attorney-client confidentiality to be in force. Anything he discloses to the lawyer while a third person is present could be deemed to be not protected by the attorney-client confidentiality rule.
