Chicago, IL asked in Traffic Tickets for Illinois

Q: Promise to comply? (Lake County, IL)

I'm having trouble interpreting my ticket. Got pulled over for speeding, going 20 miles over on highway. Not a new driver, but first offence. Ticket has no dollar amount listed on it, and box ticked that I "promise to comply". What does this entail? The paperwork with the ticket mentions traffic school, and still lists a fee for that, or that I can contest the ticket in court (which is not happening as I work fulltime and neither work nor live near Lake County), but the officer who pulled me over didn't mention traffic school at all. Thanks.

A: Promise to comply means no cash bond was posted. To promise to pay or appear.

A: You likely have the option to pay the ticket for a conviction, complete traffic school to keep the offense off of your public record, or appear in court to contest the ticket (or request supervision to keep the ticket off of your record and likely avoid traffic school - an attorney can handle this on your behalf). Promise to comply essentially means that you will respond to the ticket within the required time or appear in court on the scheduled court date.

A: Mail in your ticket and request Traffic Safety School. This is the best way to keep your insurance from finding out about this ticket.
