Asked in Estate Planning for Louisiana

Q: Power of attorney question in Louisiana

Are there specific wording and or a correct document or format that should be used when preparing and having a power of attorney notarized in the state of Louisiana.

Specifically it needs to be used in possibly getting a mobile home loan with the title which is in my mother’s name as well as being able to represent/ and or visit the social security office to take care of specific things related to her social security. I just want to ensure it covers all aspects. Is there a certain document or type of power of attorney that would cover all aspects needed in Louisiana?

I want to make noted my mother is still alive and in her right mind just incapable at the moment of doing any of the above tasks.

She’s agreed to and willing to sign and agree to power of attorney paperwork and to cover any and all tasks she would be able to do herself.

Also, does it need to be filed with the clerk of court?

Also, do I need multi copies upon having it notarized for each party?

A: I would recommend having the power of attorney drafted by a professional to ensure that it is in the correct form. It would need to be filed with the clerk of court for a bank to accept it, as they will require a certified copy of the POA.
