Chicago, IL asked in Traffic Tickets for Illinois

Q: Should I get a lawyer for speeding in school zone?

Im 19 clean driving record and got pulled over in a school zone, 38 in a 20 what should I expect with or without a lawyer. I had a discussion with the officer on the side of the road that there was cars near me and he said that didn't matter. I was unaware I was still in the school zone and the sign states when children are present which there weren't. This occurred around 9 am.

A: Without a lawyer: you plead guilty pay a fine and get a conviction. Or you go to trial don’t know what you are doing and probably lose.

A: The major issue with speeding in a school zone is that you are not eligible for court supervision. As a result, if you plead guilty or if you are found guilty after trial, a conviction is the only possible sentence. An attorney may be able to negotiate an amendment to the offense or challenge the offense at trial.

A: Without an attorney, you are looking at a conviction and an increase in your insurance premiums. With an attorney, that attorney will try to get the ticket amended out of a school zone and get you Court Supervision, which your insurance company will never see. Hire an attorney.
