Chattanooga, TN asked in Criminal Law and Traffic Tickets for Tennessee

Q: Received a citation for no insurance during a lapse in my policy. The day after I purchased insurance. Court date soon?!

I have never been in an accident/never received a ticket before. I stopped my coverage due to car repairs ~awhile~ back and being a full time university student I let my self slip in the financial responsibility. I didn’t have insurance during the time of being pulled over but not even 24 hours later I renewed my policy. The officer was very very nice and let me off with a warning in the “running a red light” stop result and apologized for having to ruin my night. Everything i’ve read online says my license would be suspended even though Ive since purchased insurance. I am wondering what to expect at my court date or if there’s any advice you could give me as I am representing myself. I’m so nervous.

A: You did the right thing it getting insurance. In most of the courts that I go to, they will be okay with you if you have proof of insurance by your court date. Make sure to bring it with you to court.

A: Just arrive at court early and show the documents to the Judge when you are called and explain what happened.
