Q: got speeding ticket for going 63 in a 40. Should I go to court (not mandatory on ticket) or just apply for supervision
One prior speeding ticket 3 years ago in Iowa. Current speeding ticket is in Illinois. Can I just apply for supervision online/pay the ticket or would it be more beneficial to go to court in front of a judge?
A: In most counties, if must appear in court by you or a lawyer in order to receive court supervision. Not appearing is for accepting a conviction.

A: If you have the option of receiving court supervision pre-court you may do so. Simply paying the ticket typically results in a conviction. Appearing in court may also have the added benefit of a dismissal if the officer is not present (and the option to request supervision).

A: If the ticket gives you the option to apply for Court Supervision, you could try and do that but there is no guarantee that you will receive Court Supervision. Appearing in court will likely result in Court Supervision but there will also be an increase fine involved due to mandatory assessments due to a court appearance.
