Q: Hello i just got traffic ticket for going 29 over in Illinois, how likely is Jail Time if i plead guilty?
I had an accident when i was 18 but that didn't go on my record and a warning before for speeding when I was 20 so my record is clean, what are my chances is if i decide to show up to court with no attorney Present? I know its a class B misdemeanor but how likely is Jail if i decide to admit guilt and not fight it? I know the fines will probably be close to $1000 and maybe some community service but Jail seems a bit harsh.
A: Unlikely but it is a criminal offense so you might want to talk to a lawyer about getting the speed reduced.

A: Jail time is unlikely under the circumstances, but there are other considerations, such as avoiding a criminal conviction and minimizing the other possible penalties such as high fines and community service.

A: The Judge will ask you where your attorney is and if you can afford an attorney, the Judge will tell you to come back to court with an attorney. If you cannot afford an attorney and can prove that you cannot afford an attorney, the Judge will appoint a Public Defender. This is not a normal ticket. If you receive a conviction on this ticket, it will show up in background checks and will cause you issues with employment, education, housing and financing. If you can afford an attorney, you really should hire one right away so that attorney can start working on your case. A lot of time, an attorney will be able to negotiate this charge down to a petty traffic offense and save you problems down the road. So hire an attorney.
