Chicago, IL asked in Domestic Violence for Illinois

Q: If I flee the state of IL with my baby from my abuser (child's father), can he come after me legally?

I am a single mother. Every since the father of my child and I broke up, he has become even more emotionally unstable, controlling, abusive, and unpredictable in his actions. I plan to relocate because the abuse is leading me into depression, I have help and support elsewhere, and would have a better opportunity at getting on my feet to provide for myself and child. I have made sure that the address I'm moving to is no longer posted for public record - but can he try to serve me if I leave with my baby? What are his chances and what are mine? I need to do what is best for my baby and I. What is the correct way of going about this to best protect my family. Please help me to take the best plan of action. Thank you.
