Baton Rouge, LA asked in Child Support for Louisiana

Q: Which column on Louisiana child support schedule should we use?

My ex and I are trying to determine child support obligations outside of a courtroom or lawyer’s office for now. We have all necessary schedules, worksheets, and information. My question is in regard to which number to use from the basic obligation schedule. We have two children, but split custody (one child stays with each of us most of the time). Should we use the child support obligation for one child, or half the obligation for two children when inputting the worksheets?

A: Go to a family law mediator, who can calculate the child support using the numbers you both supply, and help you resolve other issues of custody, divorce and community property at 1/3 of what an attorney would cost either of you. Then both of you can take the mediated agreement to independent lawyers, if either of you feel it is necessary..
