Glendale Heights, IL asked in Traffic Tickets for Illinois

Q: What would be cheaper for a traffic stop... To go to court or pay tickets in full?

Hi, my husband recently got pullover for making an illegal right turn. In that traffic stop he got issued 2 tickets. One for the turn and the second one for having an expired plate sticker. The officer explained something to us about court supervision and asking the County clerk for the cost of court fees... I felt like he was just all over the place or maybe it was just me. Anyways I just wanted to know how we should handle this 2 tickets the best way. My husband has a clean driving record and I wouldn’t want him messing it up. Thanks in advance!

A: Update the registration sticker. Bring proof to court. That ticket will be dropped. Ask for supervision on the other one. No points against his record

A: Appearing in court is likely the better option. Bring proof that the registration has been renewed. Supervision on the moving violation is likely given his clean driving record.

A: Fines will be less if just paid but a conviction will be entered on his record and your insurance premiums will likely be increased. The best option is to appear in court and get Court Supervision. The fine will be higher but it will cost less in the long run.
