A: The police officer marked your ticket incorrectly. 26 mph over the posted speed limit is a Class B Misdemeanor and requires a court appearance. The Circuit Court Clerk will be sending you a court date notice. You will need an attorney to assist you with this matter because it is not a simple speeding ticket. Since it is 26 mph over and considered a Class B Misdemeanor, which is punishable by up to 6 months in jail and up to $1,500.00 in fines, you will want to hire an attorney to see if that attorney can get this ticket reduced to a petty speeder. The sooner you hire an attorney, the better, to allow that attorney time to work on your case.

A: Because the offense is a Class B misdemeanor, if you try to pay the ticket, the Clerk's Office will likely see the error and notify you to appear in court. You should contact an attorney that practices in the county/courthouse where your case is pending to assist.
