Bridgewater, NJ asked in Child Support for New Jersey

Q: NJ Child Support Enforcement- Middlesex County

Prior to October 2019 I was paying my ex directly, by court order but from me to him electronically so there is proof, we did not have a case established with the probation department. On October 25, 2019 the court order increased slightly and was not processed by the county office until December 19, 2019. The county office sent the documents to an old employer of mine, even though I submitted my CIS timely. My current employer just received then documents on 1/23/20 and I have made weekly phone calls to the county office requesting phone calls from our case work, asking questions and I can not seem to get any information or a return phone call. What do I do here? As of today my account shows I am the putative father, which I am not. My account shows my maiden name which I never changed back to and it also shows a very high balance which is wrong. I have done everything correctly yet still in this position.

A: Thank you for your question. In order to change the records regarding your relationship to the child, name and employer, you will need to speak with the case worker directly. As to the amount owed, you should provide proof of payment of child support so the child support department can adjust the amounts owed. In the event that is unsuccessful, you likely need to file a motion with the Court to address the credits you are entitled. Based on your circumstances, I encourage you to contact an attorney to address your specific concerns.
