Q: Is my girlfriend allowed to gain the title to her trailer after a profit loss write off on the mortgage?

My girlfriend and her mother both had their names on a mortgage for her trailer. It was paid on decently from 2015 to the end of 2018 when her mother passed away. Afterwards we spent a couple months trying to contact the company we paid mortgage to, which in turn caused us to talk to the owner. We asked her what was going to happen and if we should remove her mother's name from the mortgage. The owner gave us very little info and just asked us if we wanted to keep the trailer and of course we said yes. After that she said she would call back, never did. We tried to. We kept sending money orders to pay on the loan but soon found out that the debt had been charged off and written off as profit loss. It was reverted and written off again. They have had no contact, nothing in the mail, and haven't answered any calls. Is she able to obtain the title legally for the trailer? It is scary to know someone else has the title to a trailer that we now cannot pay on.

A: I am sorry, but I would need more information in order to analyze this situation properly. For starters, who is the owner you reference above? Is this person the owner of the trailer? If not, who is the owner of the trailer? Also, who is the holder of the mortgage? Finally, why do you say you now cannot pay on the mortgage?
