Q: I'm Kevin and been divorced for 12 years. I have two daughters whom I've seen probably 7 or so times.
So you have questions right? Well me to! Like why my ex does anything she wants and I'm the one paying. Not only am I paying more in support than I am supposed to now my ex wife is hinting around I better keep paying until both our daughters are through with college. When you learn the backstory of what, when, where and why etc I'm sure someone will beg to help me which will be a first sense my ex and her family seems to not only know but control any possible outcome related to my ex wife, daughter's and my bank account.
A: It sounds like you've had a rough go at it. I'm sorry you went through all of that. In the divorce case, there should have been a parenting plan issued establishing your parenting time with your daughters. The final decree should have also established the period of time that you are obligated to pay support for your daughters and in what amount. If you have questions regarding how long you are required to pay or whether you are overpaying, you should have those documents reviewed by an attorney.
A: Kevin, it’s a good idea to not put your name and email address on here. I’m sorry you are going through this situation. You likely have options for addressing it, but you really need to consult with an attorney who can review the facts of the case in detail and help you plan the proper course of action. Your wife saying you have to pay child support through college, for example, is not true. You typically only pay until they are 18 and finished with high school. You can take more control of this situation back by working with an attorney. -Homer P. Jordan IV, Esq. 404-620-1558
