Q: If I made administrator of the estate and put the house in my name, is it legally mine in Tennessee?

A: Being the administrator of an estate is not the same as being the heir. It is the duty of the administrator to see to it that the assets of the decedent are properly transferred to the heirs named in the decedent's will or, if the decedent had no will, then to the decedent's heirs at law. You should schedule an appointment with a probate attorney to help ensure this is done correctly. There is more than one way, and the method of choice depends on a variety of factors.
