Q: If a car dealer wont take a car back at the end of a lease am I responsible for the car?
The car dealers are all closed during the pandemic and as a result are not excepting cars with expiring leases. As a result they want me to insure the car and leave it in my driveway until they open. I'm not willing to insure their car after my contractual obligation to do so has ended. I have made endless calls and have gotten nowhere. So who is responsible for the vehicle when the lease expires? Can I just park it on their lot, take my plates and registration off and walk away. The lease end inspection was done and the car is flawless. Thank you for any advice.
A: That is strange. Most service departments are open, which is where you typically drop a leased car. Also, the owner is the finance company, not the dealer where you got it. Contact them and see if there is another location that will take your car.
