Cambridge, MN asked in Traffic Tickets for Minnesota

Q: I got a speeding ticket this evening, on the ticket it says that I was doing 70 in a 75 zone

As well as it said I was 5’ 51” tall my question is do I have to pay the ticket since he said I was not speeding?

A: This is likely a typo. It would be unwise to ignore this. You should have an attorney monitor this and see if it can be dismissed.

A: If a person receives then ignores a traffic ticket, a conviction will result. And it will go on the person's drivers license record. Instead, it's a good idea to contest every traffic citation. Most have the goal of preventing a conviction. You may be able to get the prosecutor to agree to a no-conviction outcome, which will normally include payment of prosecution costs. Of course, you should do better with a lawyer. But fight every ticket. When talking with the prosecutor, consider avoiding helping them spot mistakes and weaknesses in their case prior to trial.

A: Typographical errors are not going to get you out from under the ticket. These are errors that can be amended to reflect the actual facts of what occurred.
