Addison, IL asked in Traffic Tickets for Illinois

Q: Should I take traffic school or request supervision on my third moving violation ticket?

I have now received my 3rd speeding ticket within 1 year. Should I plead guilty and apply for traffic school or try to request a court supervision? Will traffic school dismiss the third ticket?

A: A third conviction within 12 months will suspend your driver’s license. If you are eligible and have the option to take traffic school without appearing in court, that is a form of court supervision, which will not count as a conviction. As a result, it will prevent your license from being suspended.

A: I would definetly go to court and hiring a lawyer in your county. If you have two convictions (as opposed to Supervision) from the other two tickets a 3rd one can lead to a suspension. If you have a CDL it gets worse

A: No, traffic school will not dismiss the third ticket. You are likely not eligible for Court Supervision but that depends on what happened with your other two speeding tickets. You really should hire an attorney to assist you with this third ticket. You are at a high risk of having your license suspended, so the sooner you hire an attorney, the better.
