A: A landlord can evict a tenant on 30 days notice, as long as the tenancy is month to month and the notice complies with Missouri statuteS. Compliance includes providing 30 days notice that begins on or before the first day rent is due for that month (usually the 1st), is in writing, and is not for an unlawful purpose (such as because of the religion or race of the tenant). If you feel you are being wrongfully evicted you should consult an attorney.

A: If you are on a month to month tenancy then yes, your landlord may give one month’s notice to terminate, as may you. If you are subject to lease with a future end date and you are not in breach then your landlord has no basis to sue.
