Lake Charles, LA asked in Family Law and Adoption for Louisiana

Q: Why would bio dad's family be concerned about me trying to get money after the death of his mother when I was adopted?

My bio dad terminated his rights when I was 12, I am 34 now. My stepdad adopted me, and was the daddy every girl deserves. I recently received a very ugly message from bio dad's niece stating that if I tried to come after any money she would come after me civilly. I refuse to contact because of the extreme emotional trauma of his behavior when I was a child, but every few years he or a family member will try and message me. I am perfectly content with my life, and only want to be left alone. So imagine my surprise when this recent message came through from his niece. I did not even know his mother had passed. They are no longer family to me, therefore I see no reason for someone to come at me with threats and such.
