Zachary, LA asked in Child Support for Louisiana

Q: Stipulated judgement for CS paid directly to CP. Child graduated HS at 18 in May. Does support continue to 19th bday?

I have a stipulated judgement for child support with no arrears (no late payments and all according to the judgement) paid directly to mother. There is no end date or termination conditions specified in the judgement. Son is the only child with the mother, who is the custodial parent. Son turned 18 in January and graduated high school in May. I paid child support as stipulated through May and stopped in June. Mother informed me that she is advised that child support continues until child's 19th birthday because he was 18 when he graduated and will be enrolled in college. Is this true? If not, can she take me to court to get this amended even though he is now 18 and has graduated high school?

A: Mother completely wrong. Do NOT make another payment unless your child is disabled. If your child support is garnished, your attorney needs to file a Motion to terminate the garnishment.

A: Your child support obligation ended on the date the child graduated.
