Stone Mountain, GA asked in Animal / Dog Law for Georgia

Q: My dog (on leash) bit my neighbors cat (roaming unsupervised) - should I get a lawyer to protect my dog? State of GA

Incident happened in the common area of my condominium complex. Same thing happened two years ago but she continues to let the cat out to roam freely. I want to make sure nothing happens to my dog as he's never been aggressive towards humans or other dogs. Additionally, my wife and I are very responsible with our dogs.

Thank you!

A: It's unlikely she would pursue anything because the cat was unsupervised and, generally speaking, the law could care less about cats, unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it...). It's unlikely animal control or law enforcement would press charges against you. That said, make sure your dog is always properly supervised and is away from cats who roam free because they could be feral or sick, etc. and an attack from a cat can cause serious infections if left untreated.
