Charleston, IL asked in Traffic Tickets for Illinois

Q: Speeding ticket 75 in a 45

I was pulled over at 2:30 a.m. going 75 in a 45 on my way to work. Now I must appear in court. I haven't received a speeding ticket in 13 years, however I received a seat belt ticket and wrong way around traffic island ticket 3 years ago. I was cooperative and was curious what my fine could potentially be? This was in Tazewell County, IL.

A: Technically, because this is a Class B misdemeanor, the fine can be up to $1,500.00 plus court assessments - but that is the maximum. Because it is a criminal offense, the goal is to avoid a conviction and minimize the potential penalties including fines. You should find an attorney that practices in Tazewell County to discuss the specifics. Best of luck.

A: This is not a normal speeding ticket. This is a criminal offense. Specifically, this is a Class B Misdemeanor, which is punishable by up to 6 months in jail and up to $1,500.00 in fines not including mandatory assessments. If you are convicted, it will show up on background checks for the rest of your life and cause you issues with education, employment, housing and financing. You need to hire an attorney to assist you with this matter right away. The sooner you hire an attorney the better.
