Staunton, IL asked in Traffic Tickets for Illinois

Q: I got a speeding ticket for 47 in a 30, it says court appearance required but is they any way I wouldn’t have to go?

I would like to not go to court because I start college that week in a different state. Is there any way I could just pay it and not go to court? Also could I still get court supervision if it is possible? The last time I got a speeding ticket I was 17 and now I’m 20.

A: If the ticket indicates that a court appearance is required you would need to appear (or have an attorney appear on your behalf). You can call the Clerk's Office at the courthouse to verify that the appearance is mandatory. You do not want to pay it outright as that would cause a conviction on your record. It is certainly possible that you will receive court supervision in court.

A: You or your attorney will have to appear in court on the court date since the ticket is marked as Court Appearance Required. If you plan on hiring an attorney, you should do so right away.
