Waukegan, IL asked in Traffic Tickets for Illinois

Q: My speeding ticket from a week ago says no court appearance required but I just got a letter saying I have to go now?

First ticket, no issues with my license, my insurance is fine, and the ticket was for 20 over posted speed limit.

A: If you contact the Clerk's Office at the courthouse they should be able to explain why you received that letter and confirm that you must appear. There are a variety of reasons why a court appearance may be required such as your age or the nature of the offense. Of course, an attorney can likely handle this matter on your behalf if you so choose.

A: The letter controls. You could contact the Circuit Court Clerk to confirm, but if you received a letter saying you have to appear in court, you likely will have to appear in court. If you want to avoid having to appear in court, you should hire an attorney to assist you with this matter.
