Washington, MO asked in Landlord - Tenant for Missouri

Q: Landlord changed rent due date and time from what is stated in my lease A note of the change was put on my door Aug 28th

My lease says rent due at midnight the first of every month. Late fee is 10.00 per day max 120.00. I live in a senior citizen complex. Most get paid social security on the 3rd of the month. It's has been a verbal agreement that those who get social security the due date is on the 3rd of the month. Last month on Aug 4th the landlord complained to me when I was leaving the complex. This was in front of other residents sitting outside. She said I had to get my rent in her office sooner than midnight. She said she needed my rent payment in before noontime or I would get a late charge. I didn't say much at that time. On Aug 28th 2020 she put notes on everyone's door in the complex stating the due date is the 3rd of the month before 10 am. I am going to have a hard time getting a money order in before 10 am. I don't have a checking account. My son usually gets the money order for me after he gets off work at 7 pm. I put it in the rent box. It's going to be inconvenient to get money order in

A: You did not ask a specific question but I’ll address your post. If you are subject to a written lease then the lease terms control, not the landlord’s unilateral attempts to change the terms. But if the lease states payment is due the first then it’s due the first each month.
