Saint Louis, MO asked in Traffic Tickets for Illinois

Q: Hello I’m 19 and got three citations at once, what will likely happen

They are all petty offenses, 95 in a 70, failure to signal, and improper lane change. First offense with no prior tickets or stops. Officer pulled up behind me as I was in a sports car and didn’t radar me, but said “you seemed to be moving fast”. Also, the tickets all say “Required Court appearance” even though he said they’re not misdemeanors? Any help would be great

Thank you

A: It is likely a required court appearance based on your age as well as the number of tickets you received. It only takes 2 moving violation convictions within 2 years when you are under the age of 21 to cause a license suspension, so it is important that these are kept off of your public record. There are a variety of possibilities. It is possible that the prosecutor would agree to court supervision and traffic school along with a dismissal of one or more of the tickets to prevent those consequences. An attorney can ensure you receive the best possible result.

A: If the tickets are marked as required to appear in court, you must appear in court. As you are likely aware, if you receive two moving violation convictions within a 24 months period, your license will be suspended. This means, if you receive two convictions from these three tickets, your license will be suspended. You should hire an attorney to assist you, to increase your odds of receiving Court Supervision and have one or two of these tickets dismissed. The sooner you hire an attorney, the better.
