Chicago, IL asked in Traffic Tickets for Illinois

Q: My daughter received a ordinance violation for Improper Display of plate. The tag and plate number fully visible

The officer said she was traveling too fast as well and made note of that on the ticket. So yes it was good that he did not issue a speeding ticket however, the plate is fully visible. It has a dealer frame around it but that does not obstruct the number or the registration sticker in any way. Do we just pay the fine and be happy no speeding ticket or contest the violation as it is unfounded? Also, just to confirm, the speeding ticket cannot be issued after the fact, correct?

A: The speeding ticket can be issued after the fact. Whether or not that would happen is an unknown. If the cop has nothing better to do than write this type of ticket, he may waste his time on adding a speeding ticket.

A: Yes, the speeding ticket can be issued after the fact. If the ticket is marked "No Court Appearance Required", you could just pay it but if it is marked "Court Appearance Required", she will have to appear in court.
