Monroe, MI asked in Employment Law for Michigan

Q: Can an employer renig on a buyout offer.

My company is undergoing a voluntary buyout plan for its employees. I received the irrevocable agreement to commit to this and confirmed my decision to take the buyout. I later received all my package info, pension settlement, money for acceptance, and confirmation of acceptance. A couple of weeks before my end date I was informed that a mistake was made and I did not qualify due to a period of part-time service. do I have any recourse? No documents were physically signed this was done via email.

A: Maybe, contact an employment attorney in your area to discuss the details. Employment agreements are agreements, an unsigned 'irrevocable' agreement will elicit a number of questions from the attorney you contact. And electronically signed agreements are generally enforceable equal to those signed with a pen on paper.

Organize the timeline and documents so you can make the consultation as efficient as possible. Be ready to provide the employers information and your information so the attorney can run a conflict check.
