A: To be able to obtain an order for grandparent visitation, you need to have a "substantial parental relationship" with your grandchildren. The Grandparents Right laws have become much more stringent since a Supreme Court Ruling within the past few years which shows great deference to the decisions of a "fit" parent. To qualify for standing to have a grandparent visitation case, you need to meet a number of factors. You do not have an automatic right to see your grandchildren in Wisconsin. You should consult with an experienced family law attorney to determine your chances of success if you file a Motion for visitation.
