A: This is a serious matter as you are charged with a felony. Regardless of jail time, having a felony carriers a number of long term consequences.

You are likely entitled to an attorney at public expense. I will go against the grain a bit and suggest that you ask the court to appoint an attorney if it hasn't already, then meet with that person and see what they say. Contrary to popular opinion, thanks to the Michigan Indignant Defense Commission standards, most areas have very competent appointed attorneys who are in court and know the judges enough to give you a very realistic idea of what you are facing. If, after meeting with that person, you are not satisfied, you can of course hire your own lawyer.
