Q: When a couple has been married 37 years and now separated. Does the husband still have to support the wife?

A: It depends. If the husband has been the main source of financial support and the wife is dependent on the husband for support, he may very well be obligated to continue to support the wife. The Court will also look at if the husband has the ABILITY to continue supporting the wife.

A: There isn't enough information to answer. Sometimes, a wife has to support the husband. The looks at a variety of factors in determining spousal support. The need of one spouse as well as the ability to pay by the other are major factors.
