Atlanta, GA asked in Family Law, Child Custody and Child Support for Georgia

Q: Can my ex tell where I can stay during my visitation time. ie a hotel if necessary.

My ex lives 6 hrs away and I have been driving staying with her, but it is causing too much drama. And now I don’t want to stay with her, but I don’t want to give up my visitation time with my kids.

A: Sit down with a child custody attorney to discuss your situation. We cannot answer your question here because we don't have enough information. You may need to take some form of legal action to get where you want to be.

A: I agree with my colleague. Consult with an attorney who can review the facts of your case in detail and provide you with guidance. We would need to know the details of your custody order in order to provide you with guidance.

A: Have you been ordered supervised visitation by a court? If not, you are not obligated to remain at her house during visitation. Get a copy of your order, call a competent attorney, and then schedule a consultation. I wish you the best!
