Susanville, CA asked in Family Law and Legal Malpractice for Louisiana

Q: Is legal malpractice for a lawyer to disclose your hourly fees, name and details of your legal case in a public review?

I made a brief negative review of my lawyer on the BBB website and Facebook. I feel that she rip me off and failed to do a good job on our last trial that end up costing me thousands. I also end up moving from California to Louisiana to attend this contempt trial against my ex. She did not subpoena important witnesses and my ex who was not paying child support got a break from the judge until the end of the year without any penalties. My lawyer who never wants to go trial end up settling instead of going to trial and coheres me to sign an agreement making me believe he was getting penalized, but that was not the case. To my surprise my lawyer went ahead and replied 2 times to my review with details about my case, my 2 last names, my hourly rate and the fact that my ex was cured of his drug addiction, etc. She also said that thanks to her work I was allowed to relocate to California with my infant child. I am not sure if that's a breach of confidentiality of attorney-client privilege.

A: The attorney's hourly rate is not confidential. If your record was not sealed, then your name, any testimony, any evidence, and any pleadings are not confidential. If you were allowed to relocate to CA with your child, then you won. Why would you post a negative review?
