Lees Summit, MO asked in Criminal Law for Missouri

Q: is this coercion?

I tried to sell something online and my account got suspended. I asked why it got suspended and I was told this is a common procedure and I need to show proof of identity before i could sell. ok thats fine so thats what i did. i sent my photo ID as i was asked to do along with other personal information. then a day later i was asked to answer 8 questions aswell providing more personal information or i was not able to make a sell and continue making a living for myself. very shortly after i replied with everything i was permanently banned from buying or selling anything and if i tried to use my personal information to make another account i would just be banned again. So basically i was coerced/lied/forced into giving information that could not have been obtained any other way except for me giving it to them and now they are keeping info of my bank account, drivers license, and social security number. this does not seem right and i need help.

A: I don't know what website you were trying to use, but why do you believe that the website is not allowed to set rules for users? You might feel pressured to provide your financial information but you are free not to share that information and not to use the website if you have privacy concerns. There are many online sites for selling items. Look for one that doesn't require you to provide information that you wish to keep private.
