A: For a death certificate contact the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, Bureau of Vital Records, or funeral homes typically assist in obtaining death certificates. You can check Missouri Case.Net online court records to see if a probate case has been opened. If your sister won't tell you anything, tell her that you assume there is no Will and that you intend to file for Letters of Administration in Jackson County Probate Court. If she still says nothing, contact a Probate Attorney in Jackson County to open an Estate. An estate s (if there is one) must to be opened within a year of the date of death in Missouri.
