A: A Louisiana attorney could advise best, but your question remains open for two weeks. I'm very sorry for the loss of your mother. Condolences to you and your family. Yes, you could possibly have a path forward, but no one here could say for certain until the records are reviewed by medical professionals.

As a starting point, you could reach out to attorneys in Louisiana. You could search attorneys on your own or with the Find-a-Lawyer tab above. Try to arrange a free initial consult with a law firm - that's the norm in the industry for such cases. If a law firm felt that there could be a basis for a case, they would retrieve the records and have them reviewed.

Try to move without delay. Depending on whether the entity here is a public facility, there could be short deadlines within which action is required. These are called notice of claim requirements, and IF applicable, they could be within the order of days. That's something only a Louisiana attorney could advise on - that isn't general legal guidance - it involves state-specific law. An experienced local attorney should be able to outline these and other important issues for your family in an initial consult. Good luck
