Duluth, MN asked in Traffic Tickets for Minnesota

Q: Have Minnesota Driver License. Will Illinois 'court supervision' for the IL ticket keep my MN driving license clean?

I have a Minnesota driver license with no violations. I'm a MN resident but while traveling in IL was issued a speeding ticket in IL. Illinois offers 'court supervision' and attend a 4 hour safety course which IL says would keep my record clean for insurance.

QUESTION: Will Illinois 'court supervision' be seen by and honored by Minnesota? Or, am I wasting time and money attending Illinois 'court supervision' class?

I understand IL ticket will show up in MN but would like to understand if I can keep record conviction free in MN (like IL is offering). Thanks for any and all help.

Information from IL:

Guilty Plea: A conviction is recorded by the Illinois Secretary of State on your driving record. Illinois reports tickets to other states.

Guilty Plea with Supervision and Driver Improvement Program: The Illinois Secretary of State does not record a conviction on your driving record. Illinois reports tickets to other states. Check with your state if they honor IL supervision.

A: In Minnesota, if a person is "convicted" of a driving-related offense, then the Court Administrator will "certify the conviction" to the Minnesota Department of Public Safety, which in turn would then place the conviction on the Defendant's Driver's License record. So "conviction" is the trigger. It may be the same in Illinois - check with an Illinois lawyer about that. Does "court supervision" mean "deferred prosecution" and "no conviction"? If so, it seems likely that nothing will go on to the Defendant's Driver's License record. Once a conviction is on a Defendant's Driver's License record in any state, that state will report it to the state that licenses the driver.
