Lake Charles, LA asked in Workers' Compensation for Louisiana

Q: Patient's employer (not a comp carrier) was to pay a claim directly and did not. Can we bill the patient?

Medical claim, no response from the employer used at scheduling. Billing office sent claims multiple times on behalf of medical provider.

A: There's something missing here and/or the entire story is not being told. Almost every health care provider I know has the patient sign paperwork indicating that the patient is (ultimately) responsible for any health care treatment to the patient. if someone else pays for the patient's treatment and /or there are different billing instructions then that's fine but if the patient's bill is not paid, then the patient is responsible----as such, this is a long way of saying yes you can bill the patient.
