A: The police officer is not required to appear for a regular court date for a speeding ticket. If Defendant pleads not guilty and requests a trial, the prosecutor will have the police officer come to court to testify. If the officer doesn't show up for the first court appearance, the judge will most likely grant a continuance of the court date to give the prosecutor another chance to get the police officer to come to court. If the police officer repeatedly fails to show up for the trial, the judge could dismiss the case.
